Urgent Care facilities represent the future direction of healthcare for our communities, as non-critical medical treatment is becoming decentralized from hospital campuses. This project developed a vacant parcel of land for a new 5,259-square-foot, one-story Urgent Care Center (Hollywood, Fla.).
This facility’s exterior is identifiable and modern—representing an image of the state-of-the-art treatment within. We broke from an “all stucco” box to mix and match the use of exterior materials such as storefront, stucco scored walls, metal soffits, and corner wall accents made of ceramic tiles possessing the soft appearance of “wood planks”.
A strong working relationship with administrators, medical professionals, local politicians and City emergency responders was established from the beginning to understand the project’s priorities and programming needs. Open communication with the team allowed the program to be reviewed on an ongoing basis, ensuring that the right combination of service, quality and cost consciousness was achieved. This ongoing dialog drastically reduced the need for any change orders.
With the end user in mind, an environment was created which is conducive to serving the public’s immediate medical needs. There was careful analysis of the number of visits, treatments provided, and efficient patient flows. Our design provides an effective layout that allows multiple patients to be treated simultaneously, close proximity to x-ray and procedure spaces, and excellent visibility by the medical staff. Since cost is an important issue in healthcare design, this program was achieved in as little space as possible with shell space available for future expansion.
