Noah Syndergaard addresses report he was ‘livid’ with Mets management over pitching to Wilson Ramos

Noah Syndergaard has denied a report he was “livid” with the Mets about pitching to Wilson Ramos.

The New York Post reported Monday that the 27-year-old right-hander met with team management over the weekend to vent his frustrations after he saw Ramos was scheduled to catch his start. Syndergaard addressed the report during a press conference one day later.

“First and foremost, the whole idea that we had a livid (discussion) or I was livid with the conversation was completely false,” Syndergaard said Tuesday. “We had a very cordial and adult conversation about the matter. As far as Wilson, I have nothing but respect for the guy. It doesn’t change our relationship between one another. … More so, it’s all on me. I’m just trying to look for an answer.”

Syndergaard holds a 10-7 record with a 4.06 ERA in 28 starts this season. His ERA, however, rises to 5.09 with Ramos behind the plate, according to the Post.

“I’ll admit I can be stubborn at times, but I want the best for the team,” Syndergaard said. “And I want to be able to go out there and compete at that elite level I think I can compete at.”

Ramos, a two-time All-Star, signed a two-year, $19 million contract with New York in December. He started the season slowly but entered play Monday slashing .301/.363/.438 with 14 home runs and 71 RBIs.

“Noah understands that I’m going to make the lineup out,” Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters. “And he’s going to go out there and compete for the team. He understands that we’re trying to do something special here and get to the playoffs and that everything else is separated from that. So we’re going to continue putting the best players on the field at all times, and every one of our players in there is going to compete to the best of their ability and only worry about the team. That’s all you can do and I think Noah does a great job of that.”

The Mets came into their matchup with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday four games out of the second National League wild-card spot.
